Over het evenement
With 'TRAGEDIE' Stefaan Degand embraces Carmen, the femme fatale of the opera. Degand will work as a director on Peter Brook's radical adaptation of Georges Bizet's hit opera. Brook reduced Bizet's opera to its essence: the tragedy of Carmen. The result is a cast-iron theater performance, colored by Bizet's visual music, including Carmen's 'Habanera', Escamillo's 'Toréador' and Don José's 'Flower song'. Conductor Michiel Delanghe and his ensemble deCompagnie supervise the young singing talent of the International Opera Academy. It will certainly not be a classic Carmen performance… Actor Stefaan Degand and deCompagnie choose to rid the performance of all bombastic elements and superfluities. The music is the scene, the text the costume and the characters the flesh, blood and life.
